Documentary film “happiness is living in our country”

The punk band Velikiye Luki stands up to the Soviet authorities and defies the shenanigans, until, with the help of encouraging alcohol vapors and lucky coincidences, they lead to the collapse of the Red Empire.

In the Soviet Union, the 80s are expected, when, according to the great leaders, the Communist paradise must arrive, but the truth is far from that: everywhere there is poverty, deprivation, ideological control and unbridled missile production to morally cope with the ever-increasing threat of nuclear war.

In the middle of the worst stagnant period, at the end of October 1982, Ivo “Munk” Uukkivi, Allan Vainola, Peep Männil and Villu Tamme gather in a rehearsal room above a garage in Pääsküla and lay the foundation for the punk band Velikije Luki. The members of the band can feel the repressions of the authorities (arrests, beatings, forced treatment, ban on concerts, etc.), but they stubbornly continue their way, relying on the encouraging vapors of alcohol, which, through random coincidences, leads to the collapse of the entire Soviet Union.

It’s a movie that makes you laugh, think and feel that everything was so silly back then and yet so real.
