Hiking day for families
In winter, the Ida-Viru cliff coast offers a clear and diverse nature experience. The Baltic Klint adds high panoramic viewpoints to the landscape, while the Gulf of Finland brings openness and constantly changing conditions. In cold weather, waterfalls turn into ice walls, and the shoreline forms fascinating snow and ice shapes shaped by wind and waves.
Ida-Viru County is also home to Estonia’s highest waterfalls. Several of the country’s seven tallest waterfalls are located here: Valaste Waterfall, Kivioja Waterfall, Saka Waterfalls, Kuristiku Waterfall, Martsa Waterfall and Karjaoru Waterfall. In winter, they are especially impressive, as the ice clearly highlights the relief and the movement of water.
Moving across icy and snowy terrain requires attention, but with proper preparation it becomes a very memorable experience for both children and adults.
Bring your family and experience the winter cliff coast with your own eyes. It is a great opportunity to spend an active day outdoors, learn together how to move safely in winter conditions, and discover how diverse and powerful Estonian nature can be during the cold season.
