Kristervall: from bastion to bastion – history of fortification (EST)

We invite you to a fascinating tour along the semi-bastion of Kristervalli, where we will talk about the unique architecture of the defense structures of the early modern period. Very few such insurances have been preserved in Europe.

As part of a large-scale project completed in 2023, the inner rooms with vaulted ceilings, or casemates, of the semi-bastion were restored, where an authentic historical environment has been recreated. The exposition features a cannon from the beginning of the 17th century and replicas of the tools needed to load it. In addition, you can see and even touch with your own hands replicas of 16th century weapons, which are hidden in a “secret passage”.

There are three bastions from different eras on the territory of the Narva fortress: semi-bastion Kristervall, bastion Fortuna and semi-bastion Spes. Thanks to this, the participants of the excursion can delve into the history of the fortifications and learn how the defense structures have changed over time.

The tour is in Estonian.

Duration: 45 minutes.

The tour starts at the ticket office of Narva Castle.
