Narva Jazz Club: Helin-Mari Arder Trio, Rooftop Concert “Summer Bossa”

The Narva Jazz Club’s June concert takes the audience to the rooftop of the University of Tartu Narva College, where Estonian-language songs, jazz, and gently flowing bossa nova come together on a summer evening. The Helin-Mari Arder Trio will take the stage with their program “Summer Bossa.”

Estonian-language music has always held a special place in Helin-Mari Arder’s repertoire. In her performances, it sounds natural, colorful, and warm —  often in the bossa nova style, where the rhythm and soft sound of the Estonian language blend very sensitively with the style’s flowing movement. The concert program features original compositions, swing, ballads, and music with Latin influences — all imbued with a summery lightness and an open atmosphere.

Music critics have called Helin-Mari Arder the ray of sunshine on the Estonian jazz scene. Her performance style combines musical sincerity, natural elegance, and an immediate connection with the audience. Her compositions and interpretations weave together different languages and cultures, yet always remain centered on a clear, personal, and warm expression.

Helin-Mari Arder’s partners on stage are two musicians highly regarded on the Estonian jazz scene. Guitarist Mart Soo is known for his distinctive improvisational style and expansive soundscape. Double bassist Ara Yaralyan is acclaimed both as an ensemble player and a soloist, bringing depth, a subtle sense of dynamics, and a strong inner pulse to the music.
