PHOTO EXHIBITION OF YEVGEN KAPOV

10.-28. February 2026

"Ars longa, vita brevis" ("Art is long, life is short")

In the Soviet film "Kin-dza-dza!" the phrase "Everything is fleeting, art is eternal!" is heard. This line belongs to a character named Bi, who utters it while showing the main character how they live on the planet Pljuk.

In Only Old Men Go to Battle, the maestro says, "War is fleeting, music is eternal!"

Art is eternal! Let's open Ushakov's dictionary and see what art is. "Art is

1. expressing feelings

3. the task itself that requires such skill.” process and result, reflection of reality in images;

2. mastery, skill in any task

This exhibition has over a hundred photographs dedicated to art – the process of expressing emotions, the creative process.

Be it music, visual arts, theater, film or dance – creators and artists (in the broad sense of the word) are people whose souls do not know peace, whose minds are acutely aware of the surrounding reality. And at any time, under any government, a true artist, regardless of age, has never been indifferent.

Here you can see both the old and the young who have created and continue to create for the joy of the people. Here, the then chairman of the Kohtla-Järve city council, Riina Ivanova, gives a letter of thanks to Olga Bunder, who, at the request of the Kohtla-Järve city government, organized the international singing competition of the children's and youth academy, which has become a hallmark of the city for many years.

Here you can see Svetlana Korotkova, the long-time director of the Kohtla-Järve Cultural Center, and Anatoly Ščura, the conductor of the Narva Symphony Orchestra, who created the unique festival "Music on the Water", which has also become a hallmark of the city. Here are art school teachers who are creative themselves and teach children to do the same

Here is Ilja Telnov, himself a master videographer, teaching children his trade. Together they produce documentaries, feature films and animated films. Among the graduates of the first flight of his studio "First Frame", several young people have made a name for themselves as independent video artists.

We live in turbulent times where people lack kindness around them and within themselves. Teachers, by instilling a bit of this kindness in children and developing their talent, make our world a cleaner and happier place.

Those who practice folk art, lead folk art groups and clubs, help people of all ages discover their roots and stay connected to their people's culture.

Here is a photo of Nikolai Mikhailov, musician and master of miniature models of Russian wooden architecture. Also here is a photo of the talented poet and translator Svetlana Semenenko. These artists, like the artist Aleksander Igonin, have already left this sinful land, but their memory lives on in people's hearts.

This exhibition is a tribute to the countless creative people of Kohtla-Järve!

For people of the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. (About five years ago, an eighth-grader asked me what BC and AD meant in a history textbook. (I explained: BC and AD.) “Thanks,” he said, “but we thought it meant BEFORE AND AFTER THE EPIDEMIC.”)

In one of the photos, Victoria Krivoglazova, a teacher at the Kohtla-Järve Arts School, is with her student Daniiigal, who predicted COVID in her competition entry in 2018, before the epidemic, and who, after graduating from school, has decided to become a chemist, but has not given up drawing.

Representatives of nearly a hundred nationalities live in Estonia.

Culture and art are what enable people to get to know each other better, promote respect for the traditions and customs of their neighbors on Mother Earth, and ultimately maintain peace on the planet. And keep humanity from going completely insane.

Life is short – art is eternal. Creators. They die, but the works they created remain, for the joy of future generations

This exhibition is a tribute to people who have made their city famous both in Estonia and abroad.
