For Joanna and Tom Kramer, establishing their life in New York is difficult, but full of joy thanks to their little daughter Nora. Or at least it seems that way until the day Joanna leaves home, unable to reconcile the burdens of family life with her desire for self-fulfillment.

Workaholic Tom, who knows nothing about raising a child, is left alone with Nora. Forced to cope as a single parent, he has to change his thinking, until, to his great surprise, the child eventually becomes his whole world.

But then Joanna suddenly shows up to claim custody of Nora through the courts…
