Slow Art Day

Learn to listen to art!

On April 11, the foyer of the Narva Museum Art Gallery will be transformed for one day into a space dedicated to the calm and contemplative viewing of a single painting. From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., an event will take place here as part of International Slow Art Day.

On this day, the museum offers a rare opportunity to see a work that is rarely exhibited: artist Konstantin Filkovich’s painting “Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’.” The work is inspired by composer Ludwig van Beethoven’s famous Piano Sonata No. 14 — the “Moonlight Sonata.”

Throughout the day, visitors can do more than just glance at the painting — they can pause, take their time, and consciously experience an encounter with art. The exhibition of the work is accompanied by a listening session of Beethoven’s sonata of the same name, creating a special atmosphere for a focused and profound artistic experience.

The idea of Slow Art is based on a simple yet nearly forgotten experience today — looking at a work of art for a long time and with intention. When we devote several minutes or even longer to a single painting, details, emotions, and meanings begin to emerge that cannot be noticed with a quick glance. Such an experience not only helps us better understand the work but also opens up new ways of relating to art, personal and intuitive.

Perhaps for someone, this day will be the first step toward a deeper and more conscious dialogue with painting.

Admission is free.
