The play “He must leave” (in Russian)

Grade 4b grades are not commendable. But there are exams at the door that will decide the future of these children for many years. Who is to blame and what to do?

There are few forces stronger than parents’ desire for their children to do well. There are few professions that are taken with more heart than teaching. It is the teachers who see most closely how the shoots of the future sprout today. These two responsible parties, parents and teachers, meet at the parents’ meeting. Behind closed doors, the appropriateness of the methodology and worrying learning outcomes are discussed. Inevitably, both society and human nature are reflected in all of this. And what’s most important – everything can turn out quite differently than it seems at first. This is the case everywhere in the world. And like anywhere in the world – when things get really serious, he often gets really funny too.

German playwrights Lutz Hübner and Sarah Nemitz have focused on plays about the pain points of the education system, which fascinate young people, their parents and teachers alike. They’ve been writing them together for decades. Hübner and Nemitz fearlessly tackle the most difficult topics, but they always do so vitally, humanely and — most importantly — with a healthy sense of humor.

Hübner and Nemitz’s legendary play, which is performed in dozens of German-language theaters and which premiered in Estonia ten years ago in Margo Teder’s production, will be staged at Südalinna Teatr by Aare Toikka from VAT Teatr.
