Travelling Puppet Theatre Nõu Puu – “Puppets and Journeys”

From April 6, an exhibition by the travelling puppet theatre “Nõu Puu” titled “Puppets and Journeys” will be on display at Jõhvi City Gallery. Nõu Puu is a small, nature-inspired family theatre that has been active since 2014.

Many of the puppets were created during travels in Australia and Europe, while most were made at home in Estonia. With this exhibition, we pay tribute to our grandmother and grandfather, as well as other relatives from this region — both those who have passed away and those who still live here.

A large part of Ave’s childhood was spent in Jõhvi — it was here that I learned to sew under my sister’s guidance, and the sense of nature passed down from my grandparents continues to accompany me to this day.

The puppets are mainly made from natural and recycled materials. We have quite often used avocado seeds — shaping them into different elements and also using them as weights inside the puppets.

Many of the puppets have been created in collaboration between Ave Teeääre and Erko Lankots. You will find QR codes next to the puppets — the links lead to videos filmed at different times and in various locations.
