16.00 D. Popolitova's curatorial tour of the Sillamäe Museum exhibition "A. Popolitov's legacy: dialogue in the museum" in Estonian
"The stormy 20th century is sinking into history. Again and again we learn interesting facts and details about the past from the TV screen, documents and memories, excursions. However, human life is short, and together with people valuable testimonies also disappear irretrievably. The main task of the historian, home researcher and museum worker is to collect piece by piece and preserve for posterity what is still unknown or what was classified in the history of the 20th century". Aleksandr Popolitov "Sillamäeski Vestnik" Appendix 6,7. 2000
Sillamäe has long been a closed and myth-surrounded city in Estonia, but the Sillamäe Museum tries to lift the veil of mystery by telling about the history and people who became part of this history and influenced the cultural life of our city and region. One of them was Aleksandr Popolitov — one of the founders of the Sillamäe Museum and its treasurer, artist, restorer, home researcher, collector. His legacy is visible in every hall of the museum. Many investigations about Sillamäe have been inspired by him. In 2026, A. Popolitov would have turned 80 years old. On this occasion, the exhibition "Aleksandr Popolitov's legacy: dialogue in the museum" is also on display in the museum. This year's IV home research conference is also dedicated to him and deals with topics from the earlier and later history of our region and human life.
