The Narva Museum is expanding its experiential tourism offerings
This season, the Narva Museum is offering visitors the chance to spend the night at one of Estonia’s most unique historical landmarks. In addition to the mini-hotel located in Narva Castle, a new RV park and a camping area set up at the historic Kristervall bastion are now open.
Accommodation services offer visitors the opportunity to explore the city even after the museum closes and to spend more time in Narva than during a typical day trip.
Growing interest in these new opportunities has resulted in a more than 25% increase in revenue from accommodation services for the Narva Museum compared to the same period last year.
According to Maria Smorževskihh-Smirnova, a member of the Narva Museum’s board, this is a significant step in the development of tourism for both the museum and the entire region.
“Today’s visitors are increasingly seeking holistic experiences. Narva Castle is not just a place to visit during the day, but a place where you can also stay overnight and experience the historical setting in a completely different way. We are pleased to see that interest in these opportunities is growing,” said Smorževskihh-Smirnova.
According to Mihhail Duzenko, sales manager at the Narva Museum, the opening of the Narva Castle Caravan Park was a logical response to a previously unmet need.
“We see that caravan tourists actively visit Narva, but until now, the city lacked a place to stay specifically designed for them and equipped with the necessary amenities. After the reconstruction of the West Gate, the museum was able to offer a small caravan area with a limited number of spots on the grounds of Narva Castle, whose strength lies not in its size, but in its location, security, and quality of service,” he said.
The first results of the season confirm that the service has found its target audience: “Guests appreciate the well-thought-out service package and the rare opportunity to stay not just next to a historical monument, but essentially within the castle grounds,” added Duzenko.
Opened this year, Narva Castle Caravan Park allows visitors to stay in a campervan directly on the grounds of Narva Castle, in a safe environment with all necessary amenities.
The Narva Castle Bastion Camp camping area is well-suited for hikers, cyclists, and anyone looking for a stopover that’s a bit different from the usual. You can spend the night in a historic setting, just a few minutes’ walk from the Narva River promenade, the Old Town, and museum exhibits.
Narva Castle Courtyard Rooms, which has been operating for several years now, offers accommodation in the castle’s historic North Courtyard. The cozy rooms allow you to enjoy the unique atmosphere in the heart of a medieval fortress. In the evenings, guests can spend time by the campfire and experience the evening tranquility of the castle.
The Narva Museum aims to transform the castle into a comprehensive visitor experience where history, culture, and accommodations complement one another and encourage visitors to stay longer in Narva.
