Educational Hike in Poruni Ancient Forest

📅 August 30 at 11:00 AM 📍 Meeting point: Kuningaküla harbour (450 m before the Punamäe cordon) ⏱ Duration: ~6 hours

Come and discover one of the most primeval places in Alutaguse National Park – the Poruni ancient forest.

Poruni features species-rich floodplain and broad-leaved natural forests, characterized by very old and thick trees, dying and dried trunks, and snags, alternating with clearings where young trees get the chance to reach for the light. The fallen trees and decaying wood lying on the forest floor provide habitats for species you won't see in a commercial forest. Poruni is home to one of Estonia's most magnificent natural linden forests, where giant lindens, old spruces, aspens, ashes, and black alders inadvertently leave the impression of a primeval forest.

On the trails of Poruni, you can simultaneously feel the mighty power of both wild nature and ancient heroes – Kalevipoeg and Dobrynya.

During the hike, we will move along trails with a strong atmosphere of an ancient forest and reach the Narva River, which offers a great view of the border river and the neighboring country on the opposite bank.
