We are very happy to announce that ÖÖKINO will be coming to Ida-Virumaa for the fifth summer in 2026! 28.07–30.08. ÖÖKINO travels through the county in both familiar and new locations!
This year, cinema nights are mainly focused on Estonian films, and the focus of the program is various good old and exciting new films.
Stories that reflect different generations, values and life experiences were selected. On the one hand, classic films bring the golden fund of Estonian cinema to the viewers and offer the joy of recognition, on the other hand, newer feature films and documentaries give an opportunity to think about today's society, people and our common cultural space.
The program includes humor, drama, inspiring biographies as well as stories about Estonian people and their activities. An important selection criterion was also that the films would appeal to viewers of different ages and create an opportunity for a joint film experience for the whole family.
We paid special attention to Estonian stories and Estonian authors. Several films have been made in recent years and show the current development of Estonian cinema, while film classics help to keep in touch with our cultural heritage.
We hope that in addition to good movies, summer cinema nights will also offer an opportunity to meet, spend time together, and enjoy the special atmosphere of Estonian cinema in the open air.
Movies are preceded by t raditional quiz with token prizes . We really hope that everyone will find something for themselves in the program e enjoyable experience.
Bring your family and friends, clothes suitable for the weather and a good mood and come and enjoy the lively evenings where you can watch the cinema again!

There, Frida, the lady of the world, needs company. The book is about the meeting of these two women and their very different pasts. Of course, a man can also fit between them. Aigi Vahingu's novel comes into contact with the film "The Estonian Woman in Paris" but is still a whole in itself, focusing primarily on what was before the meeting of Anne and Frida.

"Suvitajad" is a summer comedy full of genuine passion and infectious fun, based on the story of the same name by Juhan Smuul. The film is being made for the centenary of the beloved writer's birth and is also a tribute to the former cult comedy "Siin me oleme", which was based on the same source material. The legendary story, which takes place in the bosom of the nature of the beautiful Muhumaa, is boldly brought to the present day, because Smuul's sharp vision of contrasting human types is timeless.
Fisherman Ärni has decided to take summer visitors for Midsummer because of the poor fish catch. The plan is not bad, but extremely troublesome guests arrive at her beautiful farm in Muhumaa: Mrs. Sohvia, her husband Johan, their son Juunior and Sohvia's beautiful sister Erna with her businessman cavalier Ivo. It is already clear at first glance that Ärn and his wife Laine are having a very difficult time with the summer guests. Summer vacationers from the capital ooze importance and demand special treatment, but beneath the surface of their clans are embarrassing secrets that begin to be revealed during the quarrel. Pulled into the divisions of the city people, the rural people now also discover surprising bottlenecks in their lives. Midsummer's Eve is celebrated with funny confusions and intrigues, and together with a powerful bonfire, passions that have been strained to the last light up on the party square.

Kalju, by the will of fate, is a lonely man who was once abandoned by his wife and took her 4-year-old daughter away from him. The man has been living on top of a high mountain in the deep forest of Southern Estonia for decades. As if suffering punishment, the man Sisypheans carries long logs and heavy stones up his hill, obsessed with building a tower to see and be seen. On the surface, Kalju is used to his routine and lonely life, but inside he is still waiting to find someone by his side. In this way, the man corresponds with many models, he even tries to go to parties to find a companion, but somehow he has no luck, he does not find the right hostess. When Kalju receives a call from his daughter with the news that he has now become a grandfather, the man feels as if a new excitement mixed with fear. To meet the daughter again? How does it make him feel? How to be a grandfather if you haven't been able to be a father? For the first time in his life, Kalju undertakes his old diaries and recordings to find out what could have gone wrong 30 years ago.

Mulgs are back! The new domestic comedy film "Säärane mulk" by the makers of "Vigased prudid" is based on the first original play in Estonian literary history. Screenwriter Ott Kilusk has adapted the hilarious adventure to the screen, bringing the author, Lydia Koidula herself, to the center of the story as a character.
Young Lydia, who has unexpectedly received two declarations of love from two different young men, travels to the countryside to visit her good friends to put her heart in order. However, instead of the hoped-for peace, he finds himself in a whirlwind of passionate events. Maie, the most beautiful girl in the village, stands just like him, between two suitors – the honest Märdi and the lying Ennu. His heart tugs violently towards Märt, but the greedy father Peeter refuses to confess because of Märt's old enmity against the mulks. Funny incidents and romantic love intrigues mix with the fight for lands and possessions. This is how Koidula's soul tremors and the love games of the village intertwine in one colorful story.

Olympic champion Erika Salumäe's path to the absolute top of her field is a story that deserves to be told and will be released as a full-length feature film in the upcoming new year. Erika's complicated childhood, tortuous youth and her journey beyond human abilities to Olympic gold inspire us all.
"Meie Erika" tells the heartfelt and captivating story of Estonian Olympic hero Erika Salumäe's journey from an orphanage girl to world records and Olympic gold. The director of the film is German Golub, winner of the student Oscar, and rising star Karolin Jürise plays the title role.
The film brings to the limelight one of the most successful Estonian athletes of all time, who has had to overcome more challenges than many could imagine to reach two Olympic gold medals and numerous records. Erika Salumäe, a trek rider from Elva, has had to face an abusive step-grandmother, broken dreams and helpers who are out for their own gain in order to reach triumphs. This film makes it clear that every nation needs a hero, but rarely asks what a hero needs.

A skilled coach from Latvia enters the game, providing the experience and hope they desperately need. But is that enough? Not only the result of the tournament depends on their determination, but also the entire future of Estonian women's hockey.
