Psychological detective drama “Spirit Identification”

Tbilisi Theater Center presents Avtandil Varsimašvili’s productions in Estonia

For five years in a row, director Avtandil Varsimašvili has been bringing his shows to Estonia. During this time, the audience has seen more than 15 productions in different genres, and the number of fans of theater tours has exceeded 7,000 spectators.

In November 2026, the Tbilisi Theater Center will present two outstanding productions in Estonia: the elegant English comedy “Love that doesn’t let go” and the psychological detective novel “Spirit Identification”.

The psychological detective drama “Spirit Identification” is based on the play “Death and the Virgin” by Ariel Dorfman.

The action takes place in a country that has survived a period of political dictatorship and repression. The main character is convinced that a random visitor to his home is the person who tortured and abused him years ago in the prison cells of the regime. Confronted with his past, he tries to get a confession and restore justice.

The play explores the themes of memory, trauma, revenge and moral choice, gradually becoming a tense psychological thriller where the line between truth and subjective perception becomes increasingly blurred.

Avtandil Varsimašvili is one of the most famous and unique directors of modern Georgian theater, a master of psychological tension and subtle dramaturgy. His productions are characterized by deep characters, an impeccable sense of atmosphere and the ability to turn the characters’ internal conflicts into exciting theatrical action.
