Sea, Music and Muinastuled is a follow-up project to the Muinastuled Night held in Toila harbor in 2007.
The Night of Ancient Lights is an old Scandinavian tradition, according to which lights were lit on the beachside areas to celebrate the end of the summer season, to affirm a sense of togetherness and to remember departed souls.
The old tradition began to be revived in Finland, when in 1992 the ancient lights were lit again for the first time. It has moved across the Gulf of Bothnia via Åland to Sweden, bonfires are lit on the beaches of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Denmark, in Estonia by the Baltic Sea and also inland.
The modern idea of making fire continues to be the unification of the peoples of the Baltic Sea and the preservation of cultural heritage, different
development of communication and cooperation between rural areas. The lights are traditionally lit in the evening at 21:30 in places by the sea so that they shine until the next light.
Together with the Jõhvi municipal government, we want to give this event more momentum in Ida-Virumaa, where traditionally on the last Saturday of August, August 29, 2026, we will organize a lively evening to celebrate it and light the ancient lights on Toila beach.
