The symphonic fairy tale ‘Peter and the Wolf’

This year marks the 90th anniversary of composer Sergei Prokofiev’s famous symphonic fairy tale ‘Peter and the Wolf’!

Over the years, this thrilling tale of a brave schoolboy who caught a wolf has been performed countless times and recorded nearly half a million times in 12 languages around the world. It has been brought to life by actors and rock stars, presidents and conductors.

The secret to the fairy tale’s success lies not only in its thrilling plot. By listening to it, you can learn to recognise the sounds of the musical instruments that embody the main characters, and become familiar with the main sections of a symphony orchestra.

On Sunday, 18 October at 4.00 pm, at the ‘Rugodiv’ Cultural Centre, actor Eduard Toman, the Narva Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anatoli Štšura, and artist Tatjana Sonina will present their original interpretation of Sergei Prokofiev’s fairy tale, in which the characters’ appearances in the music are synchronised with their graphic representation on screen. Before the performance begins, there will be an opportunity in the cultural centre’s foyer to meet the musicians – the orchestra’s soloists – to take a closer look at the instruments and even try producing sounds on them yourself.
