Year-end concert. Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and soloists

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra

Program: Johann Sebastian Bach

Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F major BWV 1046

Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major BWV 1048

Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D Major BWV 1050

The end of the year is the time to look back on what has been done and set a goal for the future. Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Brandenburg Concertos were also born from the expectation of a new, more certain direction in life.

Bach met Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg-Schwedt in Berlin in 1719, and the music-loving count asked the composer to send some works. Bach even produced a luxurious six-part manuscript that was supposed to serve as an application for employment. Unfortunately, the marquis probably did not have enough skilled musicians to perform the works, and after his death the manuscript was sold at auction for pennies. Bach’s “job ad” never brought any response or pay. Today, the Brandenburg Concertos are considered the pinnacle of instrumental music of the Baroque era.

In cooperation with the Tallinn Philharmonic
