Forts

Purtse kindluselamu

The construction of the vassal fortress on the Tallinn-Narva Hwy was started by Jakob von Taube in 1533. The Purtse Fortress on the large trade and military road was seriously damaged in the Great Northern War and by the 1950s only ruins remained. In the 1980s, the renovation of the fortress was started, and by 1990, it had been restored. Nearby, you will find a memorial and Mourning Park for the Victims of Evil, which is a map of Estonian pain, with the number of deportees noted for each county. Today, you can visit the restored fortress and excursions take place only by advance in order. You can visit restaurant Von Taube in the first floor.
